Otherworldly. Here we are enjoying a lovely summer day after a mere brush with the remnants of Katrina yesterday and looking forward to the leisure of a long Labor Day weekend.
Yet at this moment someone in a far-away southern state is standing out on a balcony not unlike my own but, unlike my morning tea and reverie, the hope there is for rescue.
I've seen TV images of distant disasters over the years and these scenes have the same haunting quality. No one is immune to nature's whims, but how to truly comprehend its power? Tragedy is a word reserved for times like these.
